2017 brought us into our 2nd year of living in Madison as a Destination Wedding Photographer. The main reason we moved to Madison Wisconsin was because we were always in Madison for session, fun things with friends and weddings. The silly thing that happened while living here is that we were in Milwaukee weekly. There was a month where every weekend we had a wedding in Milwaukee Wisconsin. Will we be moving to Milwaukee now? Ha, no! As we love the city, we love coming home to Madison.
In the last year we got to photograph at new venues with amazing couples. Some of those venues I have been dying to photograph at. Like Rustic Manor 1841, which ended our crazy season. We booked another couple there for 2018 and we are so excited to go back! Also, in 2018 we booked a wedding at Villa Terrace in Milwaukee, a place I have been wishing on all the stars to be able to photograph at!
We are known for photographing small intimate weddings, and we got the rad honor of photographing a small elopement in Minnesota and an intimate wedding in Wausau on Rib Mountain. It’s awesome that we have photographers who are booked referring us to amazing couples who have a non traditional look at their wedding. One of the best things about coming together as a couple is making new traditions and memories. Make your wedding day yours, as we tell each and every couple we photograph!
Where do we see ourselves in 2018?
This is such a hard question to answer this early in the year. Why? Because, we are just starting to plan, update and dream for the year. Last year was so amazing for us, and the fact that 2018 is ecen more awesome so far we can only imagine mega things for our bucket list.
We would LOVE to photograph your wedding, elopement or just YOU :
Camp Wandewega – camp lover like us! You could have a chill wedding on the lake ending with a fire and marshmallows.
More in home sessions!!! It’s chilly outside, let’s snuggle up inside with coffee, bake some cookies and capture your real life home memories!
Along with weddings, we would LOVE to photograph more families & couples! By couples we mean, engagements, weddings, and babies shouldn’t be the only time you get photographed. Don’t wait, plan a fun session just celebrating your love for each other!
Also, more professionals who want more than just a head-shot! Let’s hang out get some updated head-shots AND some rad marketing photos to use on your website, social media and such!
2017 was an amazing year and we love this time of year to be able to look back on the amazing things that happened, along with taking note of the things we need to change for the better. Our goal in life and business is to never stop growing, never stop learning and never stop exploring.
What is your New Years Resolution?
Some of our personal goals are to start living with less. Moving into a smaller apartment has us concentrating on what we actually need. So every single time we go shopping we ask ourselves if we really NEED it if we answer NO or probably then we DO NOT get it. We are also hoping to move into a bigger apartment, just so I can have an office again. I can’t concentrate with my office in the living room like I could with a sperate office.
We also want to start setting aside time to hangout with friends, and connect with new people. Life goes by way too fast to no spend it with rad people.
Meadowbrook Country Club Wedding south of Milwaukee Wisconsin
The Meadowbrook Country Club is the prettiest country club I have ever seen! The room used for the ceremony was STUNNING! The beams, the fireplace, and the twinkle lights! So much magic in one room! A beautiful room next to the dining room where Heather and Dan’s dining room with beautiful greenery and floral on every table! As someone who is not a fan of pink, I couldn’t get enough of all the soft pink pops with the greenery! Everywhere I looked all the little touches were so beautifully placed.
Heather and Dan planned an amazing wedding from states away! They brought their personalities, dearest friends and family together for a day filled with so much love. The final week leading up to their wedding day was a stressful one, but the day went off without a hitch! Every single time we looked around we saw so much love – everywhere! These two didn’t even eat they were having so much fun spending time with their loved ones.
Did you see the adorable pups that were there too!!!??? Being able to cuddle those little pups made my month! I mean can every wedding have dogs at it??? I
Botham Winery Stormy Wedding Day near Madison Wisconsin
From the moment I first chatted with Kelsey and Sean, I could hear the love they have for each other. They met a Coe College they were both in and out of relationships but always came back to each other. There was something always pulling them together – that is called fate!
What does Sean love most about Kelsey?
Seeing her amazing smile when she’s happy, it’s absolutely adorable. She has a smile that lights up a room and every time I see it I just want to melt.
What does Kelsey love most about Sean?
What don’t I love about Sean?! I love how compassionate he is and how silly we are together. We are almost always laughing. It’s easy with him and always has been.
Their favorite memory on their wedding day!?
Our vows. We were almost literally blown away because of the weather but right as we began our vows, the sun began coming out. It was incredible!
Their wedding day was filled with a TON of weather! But they did NOT let it ruin their day! We let a mini monsoon roll through, wiped down the chairs and rolled with it. Even when it started to rain again during the ceremony – we all laughed. The family spoke of how the weather was like marriage – you take the good with the bad. (Isn’t that the truth!) Just as the ceremony was coming to the end, Mother Nature smiled down on them with some beautiful sunshine!
What was the biggest challenge planning their wedding day!?
We were definitely the least prepared for the weather! We ended up not doing our sparkler send off, garter toss and bouquet toss. They are traditions that we ended up not doing because we wanted to enjoy the dance floor. We thought they were important but as the day went on, you realize how those traditions don’t always matter in the end. It’s about celebrating with family and friends the way you want.
Advice to future couples?
Take a moment just the two of you throughout the night. The day goes by SO fast and you barely have time to take it all in because your hugging so many loved ones. We were fortunate to have a 40 minute drive to our reception by ourselves. It was perfect. Also, if you have an outdoor wedding, have a Plan B that you like almost as much as your Plant A. We had a Plan B but really weren’t thrilled about it but didn’t think we would have to worry. Boy were we wrong!
The day in their own words:
I don’t think the wedding day hit either of us until we began getting ready at the Vineyard. We both woke up feeling like it was any other day. Getting ready with our parties was so much fun and having them by our side made all the difference with our emotions. The weather definitely made it a bit more stressful but our family and friends bent over backwards to make sure we didn’t have to worry about anything. Our ceremony was perfect. It may not have felt that way weather wise but in our eyes, it was everything we had wished for and more. Truly felt magical and like a glimpse into what marriage is going to be like. Our reception was a BLAST! The dance floor was popping and we kept getting so many compliments about our vows and the ceremony. It was overwhelming to experience the amount of love we felt throughout the day.
Waking up as MR and MRS felt so right. We couldn’t stop smiling. Our emotions were at a high even the day after and we have never felt more exhausted in our lives but in such a fantastic way. It’s hard to describe the feeling. You have never felt so much love in one weekend like you do for your wedding… especially with our families. We are the luckiest couple to have the most loving and caring families in the world. We can’t wait for the rest of our lives together and to begin a family of our own.
Since Justin and I have been together, we have gotten our photos taken at least once a year. Sometimes a couple when friends want to try new things. There are so many things that I learn each and every time. No, they are not things from the photographer, it’s things about ourselves and we want our clients to know.
First, fights happen! Just before we met with our photographer we argued about the fact Justin didn’t plan his clothes (yet I adore what he wore, it’s him). I was also angry about the outfit I planned to wear didn’t look as great as I thought it would. (still, wish I would have worn it). But, you know what – the clothes don’t really matter all that much when I look at the images. I see the laughs we had when the waves rushed up to our feet. The silly dance moves we did, and the beautiful sunlight that beamed down.
I am not perfect, either is he. But, we are human and we are imperfectly beautiful. Trust me, when I look at these images I see how the shirt I am wearing doesn’t hit me just right, I have a double chin in most of the photos – from laughing so hard – and my hair isn’t perfect. What you do not know when seeing this image, Justin and I were camping 3 nights before this. We didn’t have a shower where we were camping, so we bathed in the lake we were camping next to. I didn’t have a hair dryer or straighter – and Justin’s hair hasn’t been cut in weeks. BUT – this is US – and I love us.
I have never loved how I look, but this year I am learning how to love what I see in the mirror. Because Justin loves the woman that stands before him. And my dear family and friends will always love me unconditionally. That is what I tell myself on a daily basis – sometimes multiple times a day.
I have been photographing humans for 8 years professionally – and I love capturing memories. Yes, you’re not perfect, double chins happen when you have a big belly laugh and those extra pounds you wish you would have lost before the shoot — DO NOT REALLY MATTER! The love you two share, the goofy word he said in your ear and the way you get to relive those moments over and over with each photo.
So my advice to you when you’re getting your photos taken:
BE YOU when it comes to your clothes, be comfortable and don’t be afraid to bring a few outfits to change into.
My advice to those who don’t get their photos done every year:
DO IT – do it now! Find your favorite photographer and capture your life as it is right now! Your love for each other, your kids your season in life. Photos are your transport – and a photo other than a selfie or a blurry cell phone picture. Just do it – you won’t regret it – I promise you!
