AMANDA & GRANT | Iceland Adventure Day – part 1

October 28, 2019
Reynisfjara Beach, Iceland adventure couples session during the Fall.

One of the best parts of having a destination wedding and having photographers up for anything is that you get an adventure day!

We did a TON of research before going to Iceland and this beach was on our list! It just so happens that one of Amanda and Grant’s Airbnb was just a few dozen yards away from Reynisfjara Beach, Iceland!

Iceland has crazy weather! Since it’s an island so close to some mixing fronts, you never know what you are going to get. Justin and I left our Airbnb with the sun shining. When we got to Amanda and Grant’s Airbnb it was windy and misting. But, we were going for it no matter what!

We met them at their adorable cabin, then drove down to the parking lot of this amazing black sand beach! Where we walked along the crazy ocean, ventured in a large cave and walked away from the dozens of tourists.

As beautiful as the ocean was, we just had to face the other way to capture how perfectly Amanda and Grant matched the landscape! Amanda in her yellow puff jacket and Grant in his grey jacket. It was awesome how they just fit right in.

After this extremely fun session, we warmed up in the cafe with some delicious coffee and baked goods! I am going to say this a TON, but Iceland knows how to do their coffees! Of course, we just HAD to have another Icelandic Hot Dog! Seriously these things are sooooo good!

What are you looking forward to most about your future together?

Continuing to go on adventures with one another! One of our favorite things to do together is to travel. It’s a great way to grow closer together and make memories. It’s one of the reasons we chose to elope in Iceland. We’ve already got a few different travel plans in the works, and we started the planning before we had even left Iceland.

What advice do you have for couples planning their destination elopement?

Do your research!

There are a lot of different factors that can affect your destination elopement, and it’s important that you have a clear idea of what those factors are before you get there. For example, at one point we had considered a destination elopement in Portugal, but everything legally had to be done in Portuguese. If you don’t speak Portuguese, you have to provide your own translator. That’s not something we were interested in doing so we took it off of our list!

When planning our Iceland elopement, we definitely took peak tourist season into account. We knew we wanted to avoid that, and we honestly like it when it’s a bit colder. Found out that tourism drops off substantially in September, and that’s how we chose our month!

We also discovered that while you could get legally married in an Iceland as a foreigner that all of the paperwork needed to be in the hands of officials 3 weeks prior to the event, and the cost to book an officiant was approximately $1300 US dollars. It was way cheaper to just do the legal piece in Madison! And thanks to Natural Intuition Photography, we were able to photograph both events and make them special!
