CASSANDRA & DUANE | Filament Milwaukee Wedding

Intimate Milwaukee Wedding at the Filament

Cassandra and Duane had to postpone their June wedding to October. But, that didn’t stop them from getting married! They had a friend marry them in a very intimate ceremony on their original wedding date. I am so happy they got the wedding day they planned in October at Filament.

Their wedding day was super laid back and the details were freaking amazing! From a candlelit dinner, mini bundt cakes, plants everywhere, and BBQ for dinner! Since they didn’t have a wedding party we got to have so much fun with their portraits! We photographed in front of one of my favorite ivy walls in Milwaukee!

We also got to recreate an event that happened on their OG Weddin date! A friend of their butt-dialed the police on their wedding day. Causing the police to come. Everyone had a good laugh, and the cops went along with a prank. Handcuffing the groom!

When they saw two Milwaukee Police across the street they called them over to see if they would recreate the event. They were amazing and helped them recreate it! It was a really good laugh!

How did C & D Meet?

We met at a bar called Showboat in Wisconsin Dells. Duane was in the area for a softball tournament, and I was there celebrating a friend’s birthday, neither one of us expecting nor interested in meeting anyone that weekend. Nevertheless, one of Duane’s friends very awkwardly introduced us. We ended up talking for a while and found out we only lived about 20 minutes from each other. Soon my friends were ready to move on to the next bar.

We said our goodbyes, and at the last second Duane asked if he could have my number so we could meet up and grab a drink sometime. Hesitantly, I gave him my number and we went our separate ways. Several days passed, and I finally received a text from Duane asking how the rest of my weekend had gone. Countless texts were exchanged in the following month, which led to our first date.

We met at Cafe Bavaria for dinner. Duane arrive first and was seated at a table. As I walked up to the table, it was like a slow-motion movie as he turned and our eyes met. I couldn’t believe how handsome he was, and how lucky I was to be on a date with him. Clearly, my beer goggles must have been broken that night in the Dells lol. The night ended with our first kiss and the rest is history.

Their rad proposal story?

We were on vacation with a good friend and her family in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Duane is an excellent snowboarder was excited to hit the hills. I, on the other hand, had been skiing twice in my life. I caught on quickly both times on the small Wisconsin hills, but Colorado “hills” were much different. It was early in the morning and the snow was slightly icy yet, which made it harder to turn or slow down.

We were on an “easy” green run, but there were sharp turns, cliffs marked with a very thin rope, and blue and black runs that merged with the green runs all over. It was terrifying for a beginner like me. After a gruesome and emotional hour and a half, we finally made it down to the base of the mountain. With it being the end of the season, the weather was gorgeous at the base being sunny and 75 degrees, so I decided to relax with a cocktail while the rest of the gang continued skiing and snowboarding.

Around noon, we all headed back to the condo for a lunch break.

After some rest and refueling, we headed back to the mountain. On the bus ride over, everyone was relentless in convincing me to ski just one more time down the mountain. I finally gave in, but only after practicing on the bunny hill for a solid hour. At this point, the snow had melted some, and it was much easier to control my skis.

As I made my way down the slope, I was able to actually enjoy myself and take in the beautiful scenery surrounding us. About a quarter of the way down, there was a lookout area that Duane and my friend’s husband were already stopped at. As I approached, Duane started saying that his knee was bothering him and he needed to take a break. That is when he knelt down and asked me to be his wife, all the while my friend and her family were surrounding us taking pictures and videos. It was then I realized why they were so relentless in getting me to ski one more time.

What advice do you have for couples planning their wedding day?

Don’t plan a wedding in the middle of a pandemic! Lol!

Ok, but seriously, start planning early and little bits at a time so you aren’t overwhelmed. Focus on one thing at a time, and it will all come together in the end. And lastly, have fun with everything. Don’t get stressed over the little details, it’s not worth your time and energy. Everyone is there for you, and they just want to have a good time celebrating you and your marriage. No one will notice if something doesn’t match perfectly or if there aren’t the same candles on every table.

How was your experience with Natural Intuition Photography?

All I can say is A-mazing! You guys were professional, so easy going, and super fun to work with! We felt so comfortable and had no problem just being ourselves around you two.

We loved how Christine kept us on track as far as the timeline went. She had lots of great and creative ideas for photos. Justin was all over the place (in a good way!). From laying on the ground to climbing on things, all to get that perfect photo! We cannot wait to see our photos! You guys are incredibly talented, and we hope to work with you two again someday 🙂
