Laid back, field and barn wedding in Wautoma Wisconsin.
I have photographed Chelsie’s family since I first started photography! They were one of my first extended family sessions! I also flew to Mexico a couple of years ago to photograph her cousin’s wedding. It was awesome to get to know these two at their engagement session, then on their wedding day! Their wedding day was filled with so many familiar faces! I cannot wait to see them all again next weekend for another extended family session! Needless to say, I LOVE this family!
Their wedding day called for some rain, but that didn’t put a damper on their day at all! We found shelter under trees for their family photos, while we waited out the rain. Thankfully the sun came out for the rest of the day! Their ceremony was filled with so many personal touches, a friend was their officiant who started out with a SUPER personal anecdote about Tommy. I’ve never laughed so hard during a ceremony! Instead of a unity candle, they combined two of their favorite wines, and share in a drink.
Their reception was laid back with so many twinkle lights, antiques, yard games, and so many amazing people! Loved ones said kind words and funny stories about the couple. You could feel how much everyone cared for Chelsie and Tommy.
How did you two meet?
I’m the Chamber Director of our town and we met on Tommy’s first day on the job as the City Administrator. My office is in one of the buildings that the city owns so on his tour of the city, they came to my office. Admittedly, I already knew who Tommy was because the local newspaper put his interview and photo on the front page of that week’s paper and several people casually left that page on my desk 😉
Chelsie, what do you love most about Tommy?
His laid back personality 🙂
Tommy, what do you love most about Chelsie?
She travels to different places with me.
What would your perfect Sunday be together?
Our perfect Sunday would start with a walk with our pup Clooney, followed by coffee at the Mt. Morris Mill, and finished with a day full of football watching (for Tommy).
What memory stands out most on your wedding day!?
What stands out the most to us is having all of our closest friends and family there together. There’s honestly no feeling like it. And the venue & weather being absolutely perfect.
The best part about planning your wedding day!?
The best part of planning a wedding is finally seeing the finished product come together. We had a two-year-long engagement so we were able to take our time with things and never really felt stressed out! It also gave us time to save which took away so much stress for us as well!
In your own words describe your day from the night before your wedding to waking up on your first day as Mr and Mrs!
Straight bliss & excitement. Having our people there for the rehearsal and dinner the night before was great. We had extra time to spend with them before the craziness of the next day.
For us girls, the morning of the wedding was smooth and the guys got to relax most of the day too. Waking up the morning after was a mix of serious gratitude for how great everything was the night before mixed with a little post-wedding blues because we were sad that it was over. Everyone will tell you that the day goes so fast and it does. Try to be present and take it all in!
What was the greatest challenge in planning your wedding? Anything you felt least prepared for? What could you have done without?
I think the thing we felt least prepared for was just the logistics of the day like “who’s going to put beer out for a cocktail hour, or how will we get flowers from the ceremony down to the reception.” In the end, our people were just the best and things got done. It all worked out perfectly! I’m not sure we would change anything about the day?
What personal touches did you add to make your wedding your own?
We had an acoustic guitar player for our ceremony and cocktail hour and everyone LOVED him! We had our dog, Clooney, in the wedding, our good friend officiate the ceremony, and close people to us did the readings. Having our nephews in it was one of my highlights and my family made our favorite dessert recipes.
Advice for future couples planning their wedding day?
Do whatever you want to do! If you want to have your adorable petite Goldendoodle in the ceremony, do it. If you want to have soft-serve ice cream as your dessert, do it! Don’t include things in your day just because they are “tradition”, do whatever is going make the day unique to you.
