MADIE & TOM | James Madison Park Elopement

June 30, 2020

James Madison Park Elopement in Madison Wisconsin

When the Carnonavirus hit the US it really took a toll on weddings! Couples were forced to rethink their wedding day. Some decided to go ahead and get married anyways! Throwing their original plans out the window and committing to each other. Just during a much smaller affair! This couple decided to have a James Madison Elopement!

Madie and Tom emailed us looking for an elopement photographer here in Madison. When they saw our website and that we were also officiated weddings, they decided to hire us for both!

Yes, we officiate weddings now!

Madie and Tom decided to elope in James Madison Park with just their parents! The ones who couldn’t make it were there via Zoom! Justin officiated a custom ceremony for them with special promises to each other. After the ceremony, we walked a bit downtown to a parking garage to get away from the heat. Ending at the steps of the capitol building. We went back to the park to meet their families and had a picnic of Jimmy Johns! The perfect way to end a James Madison Elopement

Tom, how did you propose?

Every Sunday, we do crossword puzzles together. On our fifth dating anniversary, we went out for dinner and then went back to our apartment to do a crossword together. Tom created a customized crossword puzzle and the last clue was, “words with a nice ring to them,” with the answer being, “will you marry me”. Madie said yes! Tom was quite the trickster, as he was patting his pockets and getting on one knee to tie his shoes all night, trying to get Madie to think he was proposing.

Madie, What do you love most about Tom?

I love how easy Tom is to be around. We can be goofy and laugh together, but also have serious conversations.

Tom, what do you love most about Madie?

I love how even the simplest moments together with Madie make me feel incredibly lucky to have her in my life.

Favorite wedding day memory?

A memory that stands out from our wedding day was being silly together while taking our pictures!

The best part about planning your wedding day?

The best part of planning our wedding was when we realized, despite all the issues, the details were finally falling into place.

In your own words describe your day from the night before your wedding to waking up on your first day MARRIED?

The night before our wedding, we made a nice dinner together and then took a walk to get flowers for our wedding day. Madie’s parents stopped by to visit quickly and gave Madie a bracelet to wear on our wedding day. The morning of our wedding, we both couldn’t believe the day we had been waiting for was finally here.

What was the greatest challenge in planning your wedding? Least prepared for? What could you have done without?

COVID-19 was the greatest challenge to our wedding planning. We had to cancel our original plan to elope to Hawaii and then quickly organize a wedding in Madison that was quarantined approved.

What are/were you looking forward to most in your future together?

We are most looking forward to sharing life’s moments- both big and small – together!

What advice do you have for couples planning their wedding day? Especially planning during COVID?

My advice to other couples is to do what works for you, even if it isn’t a popular/traditional choice. We had a small wedding (which was our plan even before COVID-19), but it was perfect and we loved every moment of it.

How did COVID change your plans

Prior to COVID-19, we planned to elope to Hawaii. We ended up canceling these plans and planned a small ceremony with our family here in Wisconsin. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to have all of our siblings attend due to the concern of having them fly here during this crazy and uncertain time.

How do you feel about your decision to go with Natural Intuition Photography?

We are happy with Natural Intuition Photography! We appreciated that they were able to officiate and take pictures. Christine and Justin were so friendly and helped us to feel comfortable while taking pictures.
