Beautiful Moody Wedding in Milwaukee Wisconsin
We hit it off right away with Katie & Ari at their engagement session! We heard about how Ari adopted Sammi, how they got lost when Ari proposed at Kettle Moraine and bonded over beers. A session that might have lasted longer than usual because we kept talking about random things. When this happens we know that a partnership of perfection has happened.
We have been excited about their wedding at the Pritzlaff Building since their inquiry. If you do not know I am a sucker or beautiful architecture (as I wanted to be an architect, then an interior designer before the market crashed). I have been in this building a few times to visit Miss Ruby Boutique but have never these amazing rooms! Some photographers might get scared when they walk into the Galleria and see the lighting – but my heart skipped a beat. The way the light came through those windows was dreamy. During the ceremony, it hit their faces in just the right spot and the warmth had Sammi napping right away.
I can’t quite put into words how amazing their day was, so I am going to have Katie & Ari tell it best:
I stayed in the hotel the night with two of my bridesmaids. Waking up in the middle of the night in panic as I realized that my wedding dress was on a metal wire hanger from a dry cleaner, not a pretty one or even a simple wood one for the photos. Talking myself out of texting my mom at 2am, saying I would do it in the morning. I then woke up a couple hours later and remember seeing nice hangers in the closet of the hotel. Crisis averted.
I then woke up at 6am, well before my 730 alarm. I laid in bed, enjoying the last quiet moments and practicing our vows in my head as we wanted to recite from memory. We got dressed and headed down to the lobby to meet the other girls, where we would be getting picked up by the limo to take us to the salon.
My bridesmaids, mom and sister and mother-in-law took over the salon, getting our hair and makeup done. We have breakfast and mimosas and pampered ourselves.
My brother’s girlfriend (who is a hair/makeup stylist) did my hair and makeup and was so nervous as she felt so much more was as stake! But she did a beautiful job. An added bonus, she was obviously invited to the wedding so was able to touch up my hair and makeup through the day and evening. After that we headed back to the hotel to have lunch and start getting dressed.
The next couple hours consisted of getting ready and taking photos. We were doing a first look and it was fast approaching.
I felt like I was on the verge of tears most the day. Not because I was nervous or scared, but because of all the excitement and love I was feeling. It was too much to contain. We went to the first look and it was a beautiful moment, just the two of us. It helped calm me down, having my guy by my side. We took the rest of the photos and headed to the ceremony.
I could feel the nerves coming back as we had written our own vows. When practicing them earlier in the week, I would cry. So I wasn’t sure how I would handle it for real. The ceremony was beautiful. A dear friend married us and her words were so personal and meaningful. I was able to get through the vows, although I had to stop and take several deep breaths throughout and even then, tears still came through. For those couple moments, the world shrunk down to just Ari and I and it felt like there was no one else in the room.
After the ceremony concluded, we headed down to the cocktail hour to mingle with our guests. We then proceeded in for dinner, speeches and cake cutting. Even though there were many people to talk to, I didn’t feel rushed. We were able to get around to everyone for hugs and a quick chat. After the first dances, the dance floor opened up and from that point on, it was packed. All our family and friends love dancing. The DJs commented that they had never seen a dance floor so full for the entire night!
At one point, I stopped right in the middle of the dance floor and just took in everyone around us. I wanted to remember this moment. Everyone dancing around me, full of joy and love, all of whom traveled from near and far to celebrate and support Ari and me.
The night was unforgettable and perfect! We stopped at a bar for a quick drink with the last of our guests and then walked back to the hotel. We woke up early the next day and just had a lazy morning laying in bed before meeting our friends for brunch.
I have to agree – I have NEVER seen dancing like I did that night! It was amazing!!!!
