Dos Peces Wedding in Trocones Mexico | beautiful beach wedding

Joe and Lesley had a romantic, down to earth and beautiful beach wedding on the beach. This was our first out of the country wedding, and man it was a great way to start! We started it out with tacos and delicious drinks along the coast the night before. Then the wedding day was filled with sun and the ocean breeze. Where it all ended with shots of tequila and some of the best dancing in the sand!

Now let’s get to know this amazing couple!

HOW DID HE PROPOSE?

On the most amazing day, sun shining, at Mendenhall Glacier outside of Juneau, AK at the base of Nugget Falls (big waterfall)

LESLEY, WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT YOUR MISTER?

His confidence, his adventurous spirit, his ability to ground me.

JOE, WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT YOUR MRS?

Her personality, intelligence, and simple natural beauty

WHAT WOULD YOUR PERFECT SUNDAY BE LIKE TOGETHER?

Laying around on the couch with our dogs lounging in our sweatpants watching football.

WHAT MEMORY STANDS OUT MOST FROM YOUR WEDDING DAY or LIVES TOGETHER!?

How beautiful she looked when I saw her for our first look. How personalized our wedding was to us, the vows, speeches, live music were all so meaningful.

WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO DO A DESTINATION WEDDING?

Keep things small, spend money wisely, we fell in love with Troncones. Traveling is a big part of our lives so it was amazing to have a vacation with our closest family and friends. I liked the idea of not having just one day with our wedding guests but a whole week to catch up with everyone.

WHAT WAS THE BEST PART OF PLANNING YOUR WEDDING DAY!?

When the day was over and everything went smoothly. I love all things party planning and I enjoyed picking color palettes and customizing our wedding to our location. I tried to incorporate traditional Mexican themes like Papel Picado banners, Mexican cuisine and a sprinkling of salsa music in our playlist. Mercy, our wedding planner was amazing and helped to hire some local musicians and was able to get the key lime pie made by one of our favorite restaurants from a different town. Mercy really went above and beyond.

IN YOUR OWN WORDS, DESCRIBE YOUR DAY FROM THE NIGHT BEFORE TO WAKING UP ON YOUR FIRST DAY AS MR & MRS!

special and magical.

I had been having trouble sleeping up to the wedding thinking about all the things that I needed to do. Joe and I woke up early and had to write our vows. I kept thinking we were going to have these done weeks before the wedding but we had to sit down and take a couple of hours in the morning to each write our vows out.

After breakfast we both started getting ready, Joe’s sister did my hair and I did my own make-up. My bridesmaids came over to my room and got ready as well. It probably the first time in my life I was ready early. Joe and I decided to do a first look which was really great to get a few moments together before the ceremony. It was a little warm during our first look, my legs were dripping sweat and I was hoping that by the time our ceremony started it would be cooled off a little.

Thankfully that is what happened and no one sweated through their wedding clothes.

Our ceremony was short but long enough to feel significant. One of my bridesmaids and a friend of ours sang as the wedding party walked down the aisle and as my parents walked me down the aisle. I chose to walk down to “Cowboy take me Away” by the Dixie Chicks. Chose that song because I can barely sing the lyrics without crying and it describes perfectly the way I feel about Joe. I couldn’t have asked for our ceremony to gone any better. Great readings from our mothers and vows that were uniquely ours.

I intended on spending my wedding reception dancing the night away. Dinner was wonderful, we had a live guitarist play during dinner and appetizers who was so incredible. We had several speeches but each one worthy of tears.

I took a chance during our reception and decided to self DJ our party. I had been collecting songs for a long time and made an epic playlist on Spotify, I just put it on shuffle and it really paid off. Joe and I danced the night away and passed out around 2 AM.

It was everything I could have asked for.

WHAT WAS THE GREATEST CHALLENGE IN PLANNING YOUR WEDDING? WHAT DID YOU FEEL LEASE PREPARED FOR? WHAT COULD YOU HAVE DONE WITHOUT?

Transportation. Vows. Nothing.

Planning a wedding in another country had unique challenges, just paying our wedding planner had challenges. We did write our vows the morning of but they were great, I can’t think of anything I would have changed about the wedding.

WHAT PERSONAL TOUCHES DID YOU ADD TO MAKE YOUR WEDDING YOUR OWN?

Vows, Friends for music and our officiant. Our wedding planner had customized Papel Picado with our names and the date of our wedding as well as the name of the house we got married at. That was really cool.

IF YOU WROTE YOUR OWN VOWS WOULD YOU MIND SHARING THEM?

Because we waited last minute to write our vows they were only handwritten. If I recall Joe’s said something such as promising not to get on my case about the dishes and I promised to try to do the dishes more often.

WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO MOST IN YOUR FUTURE TOGETHER!?

All the challenges life will bring. We can accomplish anything together. Living life together, the small daily things and sharing life’s biggest moments. I’m excited to see Joe become a father, I think he will be amazing.

WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR COUPLES PLANNING THEIR WEDDING DAY?

Keep it simple.

Have someone in charge of running the day of the wedding. This was critical for our wedding. My friend Joy did an amazing job coordinating our wedding day, she was the go-between for all of the moving parts. Having someone you trust in this role will greatly reduce the stress of the day since you won’t be in charge of answering everyone’s questions.

Don’t sweat the small stuff, enjoy your day with your significant other.
