What’s in a Name!?

July 6, 2017

Why are we named NATURAL INTUITION PHOTOGRAPHY?

I have gotten asked a TON about the name of my photography business. I get to rethinking my name a TON too! Every time someone wonders if they should change their business name from blah blah photography to their name photography. Someone explained that the greats like Ansel Adams, Annie Leibavitz, and Dorothea Lange aren’t blah blah photography. So I really got to thinking about why I named my photography business NATURAL INTUITION PHOTOGRAPHY 9 years ago!

I looked up the definition to Intuition:

the ability to understand something immediately, without the need for conscious reasoning

a thing that one knows or considers likely from instinctive feeling rather than conscious reasoning.

Then it got me looking at some of my favorite quotes:

The only real valuable thing is intuition – Albert Einstein

Never apologize for trusting your intuition. Your brain can play tricks, your heart can be blind, but your gut is always right.

As my business started I trusted my gut. As I had advice coming from everywhere – online, workshops, friends, family and other photographers. Advice about everything! I didn’t know what to take or what not to take – but I trusted my intuition and it always steered me the right way. All the decisions when I listened just felt natural. Whenever I went against what my heart was telling me, it was always the wrong turn. BUT – I didn’t give up as there was always a voice pulling me towards where I am today. Following your Natural Intuition is always the right path.

Also, I wanted my name to say something more than just my name. I want to say more with just a name – my style, my personality and my vision. All that without having to think of a style of my logo, like calligraphy, leaves, hands ect. I love all these logos, but there was something about them that never fit for me. Another reason is – Christine Dopp Photography never felt right to me. I love my name – but no matter how I put it, nothing spoke to me.
